Financial Support

A limited budget is available from the Local Organizing Committee and the EPS to partially cover the registration fee and travel expenses of presenting authors that most need financial support for attending the conference. Priority will be given to young researchers (age 35 and below). As an Europhysics Conference, ESCAMPIG XIX allows participants to apply to the EPS East West Fund (EWF) conference grants. Applicants to the EWF should get a recommendation letter of his/her national physical society, have an accepted contribution to ESCAMPIG XIX and be preferably younger than 40 years. According to EPS regulations, the deadline for applications to the EWF for attending ESCAMPIG XIX in Granada is before April 30th, 2008.

An application form must be filled in by all participants requesting financial support from the conference LOC. This form should be signed and sent by regular mail or fax to the ESCAMPIG-2008 Secretariat before 15 February, 2008. In addition, students applying to LOC for Conference Fee reduction should provide a recommendation letter from their supervisor and be presenting authors of a contributed paper.

Since the total amount of grants available is small as compared to the expected needs, a balance of nationalities, of conference topics, and of participant’s gender will be respected.

Grants for PhD students

Full or partial financial support is available for postgraduate students to attend a Graduate School on Plasma Science and Technology supported by the European Science Foundation (ESF) through the COST P17 action. The program of the school is the same as that of ESCAMPIG-2008.

Support available and rules for reimbursement

Support is available for 30 full-time PhD students to attend the School. The eligible countries are: Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, and United Kingdom.

The grant will be based on 80 € per day in support of fees, accommodation, local transport and meals, and most economic travel arrangement (normally not exceeding 200 €). The total grant per attendee may vary and shall normally not exceed 600 €. If the total estimate of the cost of the stay exceeds 600 €, the attendees ought to obtain the difference from their institutions or from other sources. The school organization will charge 300 € in fees to PhD students. This fee will also be considered by the COST office as an eligible cost for reimbursement.

Reimbursement will be made by COST Office (Brussels) according to standard procedure established by COST. Reimbursement is made in Euros to the private bank account of the attendee, and is converted into the local currency if necessary. The attendees will sign a form confirming their attendance on each day of stay, and present receipts for travel expenses and school fees paid.

Deadlines and selection

The deadline for applications is 15th February 2008. The result of selection will be made known to the applicants by 15th March, 2008. The main aim of the selection committee is to ensure fair representation of attendees across topics and countries.

Useful information

Student accommodation will be provided in shared double rooms at the Hotel MA Aben Humeya at a cost of 34 Euros per night including breakfast and taxes. All lunches and the conference banquet are included in the fee. Please note that the 34 Euro per night implies shared accommodation in one room. Those who do not wish to share have the option to book a single room in the same hotel (MA Aben Humeya) at a cost of 53 Euros per night including breakfast and taxes. These prices have been much negotiated and it is extremely difficult to get cheaper fares in reliable hotels in Granada for those dates. Please remember that, in order to make your hotel reservation, you have to download the participant accommodation form from the “Hotel Information” and/or “Forms and Info” sections of the ESCAMPIG-2008 webpage (see below), fill it in and send it to the FAX number: +34-91-559-74-11.
